The Partnership is the Houston region's primary business and economic development organization, and HETI is a strategic initiative that leverages the best of leading energy companies, academic institutions, and stakeholder organizations for a future of more affordable and reliable energy. On Friday, October 24, from 8:30am-3:30pm at our office in downtown Houston (701 Avenida de las Americas, Ste. 900, Houston, TX, 77010), HETI will host a second annual workshop convening U.S. Department of Energy national labs, and Gulf Coast academia and energy and chemicals industry leaders to identify gaps and opportunities for greater collaboration for the commercialization of new technologies and competitiveness of the Gulf Coast energy and chemicals industry. The workshop will include a morning plenary followed by three thematic sessions, a networking luncheon, and afternoon breakout discussions to synthesize learnings and develop recommendations for greater collaboration between national labs, academia and Gulf Coast industry. The day will conclude with an afternoon keynote presentation. We anticipate hosting 100+ attendees representing industry, academia and the national labs. The workshop will address the following themes and feature brief presentations from national labs and panels featuring labs, academics and industry leaders:
More Affordable and Reliable Energy:
Learn from case studies highlighting how industry, labs and academia can partner to strengthen energy and supply chain security.
Energy Integration:
Gain an understanding of how operators can choose between different technologies for a specific outcome (e.g., efficiency, cost, production) and the tools that academia and national labs possess to enable decision making. Examine case studies of how different sites develop mutually beneficial partnerships that maximize efficiency (e.g., co-gen. utility and water agreements, etc.).
Emerging Technologies:
See novel examples of technology opportunities for which labs, academia and industry are well suited to partner.
Last year's workshop focused on gaps and opportunities for an economic and resilient energy system for base chemical manufacturing in the Gulf Coast. The workshop's findings and recommendations can be found here. The Gulf Coast has already acted on the recommendations from this workshop, including hosting meetings with national labs, industry and academia to better understand some of the modeling tools and technological capabilities within the national labs and how they can be most useful to the operations and assets along the Gulf Coast.
