Strengthening Cyber Resilience: Practical Approaches for SMEs

This half‑day workshop helps SMEs strengthen their cyber resilience by starting with expert insight into the current cyber threat landscape, giving organisations a clear understanding of the risks and attack patterns affecting UK businesses. Led by an NCSC Assured Service Provider, the session then explores what credible cyber hygiene looks like in practice, how it aligns with the five Cyber Essentials controls, and what independent verification involves during a Cyber Essentials Plus assessment. With input from an NCSC‑assured Cyber Advisor, the workshop provides accessible, actionable guidance to help SMEs build a more secure and resilient operating environment.

Event background

Early last year, Plexal and Northern Reach delivered a series of industry roundtables on behalf of Lancashire County Council to explore the needs of the region’s cyber ecosystem ahead of the arrival of the National Cyber Force. These conversations highlighted key challenges and priorities for SMEs. This workshop builds on those insights, focusing on practical next steps to help businesses strengthen their cyber readiness and develop the skills needed to operate confidently in a growing cyber landscape. Open to SMEs across Lancashire, the session will be hosted at Lancaster University, a globally recognised centre for cyber research and education.
