Registration is required for this workshop: https://center-for-agroecology.company.site/products/Backyard-Series-Strawberries-p699122381Join UC Santa Cruz Center for Agroecology Field Site Manager Kirstin Yogg as she covers the fundamental information you need to know to successfully grow and harvest strawberries in the home garden. Beginning in the UCSC Hay Barn, Kirstin will discuss the brief history and origin of these crops, their agronomic significance in our area, their primary cultural requirements, soil and bed preparation, and crown varietal selection and sourcing.
The group will then walk up to the farm and look at our strawberry production site and have the opportunity to plant crowns in beds we have prepared. We will be using the living plants to illustrate key terminology and plant physiology and discuss seasonal care requirements and the specifics of tending to this productive and long lasting crop. Participants will have the option to bring plants home from the workshop to plant in their own home gardens.
