About this Event
Straw, Sticks and Bricks – Building on Strong Foundations
Join PGDE student Kris Wallace-Boyle for an immersive outdoor learning experience designed to deepen your understanding of nature and its role in education. This session will focus on nature awareness, exploring how building outdoors can develop an understanding and appreciation of ecosystems.
Participants will take part in a Shelter Challenge, learning about the properties of different materials and basic construction principles through hands-on, play-based activities.
Join the 3 Little Pigs in a great outdoor adventure as we huff and puff our way to building the perfect den! Will your shelter be made of sticks, straw, or something sturdier to keep the Big Bad Wolf at bay?
Put your teamwork and building skills to the test as you craft a den that’s tough enough to withstand the pressure. Just like the pigs, you’ll need to think carefully, work together, and build smart—because you never know when the wind (or wolf) might blow!
Design and construct your own dens or shelters. Through den building we will look at promoting imaginative play, resilience with a sense of adventure, allowing you to take ownership of your outdoor space and explore the environment in a fun, interactive way.
Please dress appropriately for the weather.
