Celebrate Children’s Day in an explosion of brilliant colour! We’re calling for individuals, families, and friends to come together in King Edward Park from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday 9 March for Stratford’s Colour in the Park walk/run event.
Registration for Colour in the Park is free for the first time in the event’s history. In another first, there’ll be a shorter wheelchair and mobility scooter accessible route, as well as our usual 2.5km run/walk and 5km run tracks, so more people can take part.
Wear white or black for the best effect, get out your costumes, or come in your usual gear. However you arrive, expect to come out looking like the world’s happiest unicorn after the coloured powder rains down.
Make sure you stay for our free sausage sizzle courtesy of Stratford District Youth Council (SDYC) and Zeal Taranaki. Not colourful enough for you? We’ll have free face painting on the day too.
Thanks to SDYC, Taranaki Electricity Trust, and Zeal Taranaki for making this event possible!
> Top tips
• Bring your drink bottle and keep hydrated with filtered h2o from Water Hog.
• The coloured powder we use washes off easily, but if you’re driving home, you’ll want to bring a towel and a change of clothes. Trust us on that.
• If you have a respiratory condition, please wear an appropriate dust mask during the event and consult with your doctor if you need any guidance about taking part.
• We recommend wearing sunglasses. Not only will they add the final touches to your fit, but they’ll also offer some eye protection from the non-toxic coloured powder. Proper safety goggles are a good option too.
• Wear white or black if you’re after a colourful insta-worthy photo.
• You’ll be doused with colour at points as you move through the track but stick around afterwards to take part in the massive final colour explosion.
> About Children’s Day
Children’s Day on Sunday 2 March 2025 is a celebration of Aotearoa’s young people and a chance to acknowledge and protect their wellbeing, rights, and potential.
So, why is Colour in the Park on Sunday 9 March? Well, on Sunday 2 March we have our free Children’s Day swim on at Wai o Rua. Having Colour in the Park a week later means more people can come to both events and the kid-friendly fun lasts longer!
