Event Description

Mission Capital's Nonprofit Strategy Lab: Charting Your Course for Strategic Planning is an interactive, two-day course that dives into Mission Capital's strategic planning framework and helps you explore equitable approaches to designing your organization's planning process with the support of our team. Some key questions you’ll investigate in this course are: how can you implement community-engaged methods? Are your surveys, interviews, and focus groups presented in a way that makes sense for the group you're engaging? If you don’t have answers, that’s fine!

During Training, you will:

  • Identify several strategic planning frameworks aligned to your unique nonprofit business model and community
  • Understand the roles of board, staff and community in informing your process and outcomes
  • Develop key questions that inform your organization's strategic direction
  • Two, 3-hour sessions of interactive training, team discussion and real-time coaching from experienced Mission Capital Consultants
  • Following the two sessions, we will hold an office hour for all participants to ask additional questions about the material and tools covered
  • Registration for 3-5 participants from your organization
  • A packet of powerful tools and worksheets to use in future planning
  • 1 HR of Individual Team Coaching with Strategy & Sustainability Facilitators, Kyle Gugel & Jordan Ely
  • Gain hands-on practice with tools to utilize in your strategic planning process
  • Assess your Mission and vision statement for accuracy; Core programming for internal and external impact; and Strengths, Opportunities, Organizational Aspirations and Desired Results

FACILITATOR

Jordan Elly’s passion for community and capacity building initially brought her to Mission Capital’s Membership Management team in 2018. While in the role of Membership Intern, she completed her Bachelor’s degree at St. Edward’s University where she graduated with an Honors degree in Cultural and Rhetorical Communication. After graduating, Jordan moved into the for-profit sector in a business development role at Oracle NetSuite where she worked with companies and organizations across their general business and non-profit verticals to solve operations challenges through systems change.

She returned to Mission Capital in January of 2021 as our Program Fellow, providing direct consulting support, business development, systems development and administrative support for the Consulting and Learning and Leadership team.

In 2022, Jordan moved into a Consultant role with the team. Since stepping into this position Jordan has deepened her expertise with strategic planning, piloting new community-based approaches to strategic planning, working with organizations of all sizes and scopes to strengthen strategy, team development and impact. In addition to strategic planning, Jordan is passionate about Executive Transition Management – partnering with organizations at pivotal change points to understand community needs and translate that into transformational leadership.

Jordan excels at understanding and finding value in the complexities that come with nonprofit capacity-building and development, and she prides herself on her ability to ask deep questions, forge trusting relationships and create systems excellence. You can find Jordan in Houston, playing with her three dogs, cooking and watching great TV.

Kyle Gugel is a Consultant with the Consulting, Learning & Leadership team at Mission Capital with a diverse background in nonprofit management, international non-governmental organizations, and private-sector experience. He has worked in the nonprofit sector since 2013 and is experienced in project management, operations, finance, and program development.

Prior to joining Mission Capital in 2018, Kyle worked as the country director for a non-governmental organization in Jordan and Palestine where he provided operational oversight and program support for educational capacity building initiatives in public and private schools. Kyle takes a strengths-based approach to his work, and he is enthusiastic about collaboration, organization, and community voice.

Kyle received his BA with Honors in International Relations and Global Studies from The University of Texas at Austin with a minor in Entrepreneurship.
