About this Event
The music of The Doors was a formative influence for so many of us in our childhoods and at many points throughout our lives. It was on the radio, it was on the tape deck, it swirled through our consciousness. Jim Morrison seemed like a mythical figure, inspiring men and tantalizing women with his poetic songwriting, showmanship and primal sex appeal. Back in April, we decided it was time to bring a “proper” Doors tribute band to the Crazy Horse to immerse us in the feeling of what it was actually like to see the band in their heyday. The results far exceeded our expectations. Shall we swim to the moon again?
Based in Sonoma, Strange Daze is made up of seasoned pros who have a deep understanding of what defines the essence of The Doors sound. You can expect true renditions of all of the hits as well as some B-sides and deep cuts. You’ll find yourselves beaming on the dancefloor, being reminded of gems like “Waiting for the Sun,” “20th Century Fox” and “The Crystal Ship.” Naturally the main focus is on Max Schimm, fronting the band as the voice and character of Jim Morrison. He has the routine dialed from voice to demeanor to movements and captivating animalistic energy to fully evoke the Lizard King.
Rather than duplicating the exact instrumentation of the original, Strange Daze has assembled a lineup which represents an expanded interpretation of The Doors sonic aesthetic. This includes Bruce Gordon on keys, Jason Krist on guitar, Michael Gay on drums and John Arntz on piano bass and electric bass. Their focus on the details and undercurrents of the songs produce an effect which is both spontaneous and “true to the record.” Come rekindle your passion for one of the greatest rock and roll acts of all time as Strange Daze takes us on a psychedelic ride which manages to feel both raw and polished.
