The perfect event for budding naturalists. We need your help to survey for the species present on the shoreline. The event will be run by staff from Our Dee Estuary , Wirral Country Park Rangers and RECORD.
Expect to get stuck in (and maybe a little muddy) and find all kinds of exciting plants and animals from seaweeds, to shark egg cases and crabs. We will be looking along the sandy strandline as well as digging up some Estuary mud!
Identifying the organisms we find on the shoreline allows us to collect data and develop an understanding of how well the Dee Estuary is supporting nature and wildlife.
This event is open to all ages and is family friendly. We kindly request that all children are always accompanied by a responsible adult.
No prior marine knowledge is necessary. We will bring buckets, spades, sieves, trays and identification guides and our staff will be on hand to help you to identify anything you find and to guide you through the session.
The nearest facilities are at Thurstaston visitors centre where there is also a cafe if you need to purchase any food. We do recommend bringing some snacks and a drink to keep your energy levels up. There are no public toilets at the beach, you would have to walk back up to the Visitors Centre.
The initial meeting point will be at the Thurstaston Visitors Centre, Wirral Country Park (see event basic information) near the duck pond and outside the bike rental shop, at 10:30.
Parking is available at Wirral Country Park pay & display. It is charged at £1/ hour or £5 all day. The visitors centre is also accessible straight off the Wirral Way by bike and foot.
Please note that due to the outdoor nature of this event, severe weather may cause this event to be cancelled at late notice.
We look forwarding to meeting you!
