The Buddy Rich StoryStraight Ahead - The Big Band has pleasure in presenting The Buddy Rich Story, the music and life of the legendary jazz drummer Buddy Rich featuring Ric Eastman on drums, Victoria Newton vocals, Mark Underwood vocals and lead trumpet, music direction by Paul Millard.
Bernard "Buddy" Rich was an American jazz drummer and bandleader known for his virtuosic technique, power and speed and was frequently billed as "the world's greatest drummer”. During his long career he performed with many bandleaders, most notably Tommy Dorsey, Harry James and Count Basie. Buddy lead his own jazz orchestra from 1945 - 48 after which he formed many excellent small groups releasing numerous records playing drums and as a jazz vocalist. From 1967 Buddy led his newly formed "Buddy Rich Big Band” which produced some of the most exciting big band music over the next twenty years. The band personal would change over those years but with each new line-up came players of the highest order driven by Buddy’s relentless drumming and demanding leadership.
