About this Event
Leaving an abusive relationship is extremely hard, and on average it takes a victim seven attempts to leave their abuser before they are successful. Sadly, many survivors suffer from post-separation abuse. However, post-separation abuse can also occur even when abuse has not been a factor in the relationship. Post-separation abuse is legally considered a serious crime, with coercive and controlling behaviour being made a criminal offence in 2015.
Sarah Barr-Young, Partner and expert family lawyer, is joined by Domestic Abuse Consultant Lucy Wade, who specialises in post-separation abuse, for a discussion on understanding and managing post-separation abuse.
In the session, we will cover:
· What is post-separation abuse?
· How can I identify post-separation abuse?
· Tips for managing abuse
· Helping a friend or family member suffering from abuse
· Finding help
