About the Book: Princess Shmincess is a picture book for ages 6-8 that tells the story of Princess Alexandria Von Shmincess (Alex)—a princess who prefers drums to tiaras and follows her heart instead of royal rules.
When she's kidnapped by a dragon with a secret, Alex discovers that the fearsome dragon isn't really a monster—she's just afraid to be herself. Together, these unlikely friends learn that happiness means following your heart, not others' expectations.
The book carries an empowering message about encouraging children to be themselves and celebrating individuality over conformity.
Julie Keshmiry's journey into children's literature began at her daughter's bedside, where a creative rebellion was sparked from reading too many traditional princess stories. Determined to break the tiara-wearing mold, Julie created Alex—the drum-playing, adventure-seeking princess who follows her heart rather than royal rules. When she's not crafting tales that empower young readers, Julie works in marketing and volunteers with organizations that serve women and children.
