June Book of the Month: Evenings and Weekends | Author: Oisín McKenna

Celebrate the power of community, identity, and the art of storytelling with our June Book Club pick: Evenings and Weekends by Oisín McKenna.

Step into the vibrant, chaotic energy of a hot London summer with this multi-layered novel. As we dive into the intertwined lives, secrets, and truths of its characters, we’re also turning our focus to celebrating who we are and the communities that lift us up. Our theme this month is Pride Month: Celebrating Community & Connection. Alongside our book chat, we’ll spend time stitching a custom embroidery patch onto our dedicated Storytime Stitching hoodie—a creative keepsake that grows with every book we read!

🌈 The June Theme: Pride Month

This month, we are coming together to celebrate love, diversity, and the beautiful threads that connect us all. In honor of Pride Month, our stitching and chat will focus on themes of community, self-expression, and chosen family.

Whether you want to design a patch that bursts with rainbow colors, stitch a quote that inspires you, or simply enjoy the warmth of a welcoming, inclusive space, the floor is open. This month is all about celebrating who we are, honoring our unique journeys, and enjoying the wonderful company of our fellow readers and makers.

🪡 How It Works

Whether you’re brand new to embroidery or already love crafting, you’ll have the freedom to choose your own design—with inspiration, guidance, and tools provided to bring your ideas to life. This is less about being “experts” and more about enjoying time together as cosy crafters and page-turning pals.

💌 Before your first session, you’ll receive an email with:

  • Video guides and embroidery tips
  • Recommendations to get you started
  • A warm welcome into our community of fellow readers and makers

🌸 Your one-time joining cost includes:

  • A custom Storytime Stitching hoodie (your book club canvas!)
  • An embroidery starter pack (threads, needles, scissors, and hoop)
  • A book club starter pack (gel pen, tracking bookmark, note tabs, stickers, and a roomy tote bag)
  • Attendance at your first meeting, complete with a cosy venue, tea, coffee, light snacks, and access to every colour thread imaginable!
  • The book of the month picked up from Booklover bookshop.

🌼 Ongoing cost: After your first meeting, each session is just $45. This covers the venue, snacks, and continued access to all tools and threads. It also includes the book of the month from Booklover bookshop; alternatively, you can choose any other book in the shop up to the value of $40. There’s no pressure to attend every month; come along whenever you can!
