Enjoy the history and hands-on African mask-making experience with Carlo "Mama Lo" Dawson!
Participants will learn about the importance and symbolism of masks in traditional African cultures through interactive mask-making. Teaching artist Carlo L’Chelle Dawson, "Mama Lo" will help participants create and design their own masks. Participants will engage in mask-making, songs, and interactives.

About the Teaching Artist:
First and foremost, Carlo L’Chelle Dawson is a wife and mother to two children (and one in heaven), but she is also a graduate of College of Charleston with a Masters of Ed. Curriculum & Instruction, Integrated Teaching Through the Arts. Carlo has been captivating audiences since the age of three and inspiring the youth for over a decade. As a teaching artist, Carlo teaches Language Arts, Journalism, and Creative Writing in a style that delights, inspires, and enlightens audiences and leads Creative Writing classes and workshops with groups of all ages. She is an author, a master storyteller, dramatist, arts integration specialist, motivational speaker, educator, and community activist who compels her audience through audience participation, enthusiasm, and engagement.
