Story Time: Raakhee Mirchandani presents Kamala Raised Her Hand AND Mama's Roti
At this special Story Time, join us for not one, but two, picture book readings by author Raakhee Mirchandani, an award-winning writer. First, we'll dive into Kamala Raised Her Hand, a picture book celebration of Kamala Harris—the first female, Black, and South Asian American person to be Vice President of the United States—from her childhood to her historic run for president. Then, we'll explore Mama's Roti, a powerful story about the life-giving force of roti—a round Indian flatbread—and where it comes from, the people who grow it, and what it symbolizes within two families, inspired by the farmers’ protests in India. Join Mirchandani as she spotlights multiple important figures and cultures of the world around us.
