Join us in Foundry Wood as we conjure the Summer, with: Performance Storytelling : Live Music : Specially Blended Herbal Teas & Charms
About this Event

Expect tales of wise women, shapeshifting midsummer hares, the rise and fall of fortunes, golden gods and gifts for the good folk; underscored by original live music played on the Handpan; all served up with specially blended herbal teas and the magic of the recipes.

Our audiences have told us Midsummer Brew is:

"Entertaining and unforgettable! with magical stories and lovely teas and herbs!” it is “ an uplifting and magical experience” and “an escape to a beautiful world of nature with lovely sounds of a roaring fire, gorgeous aromas of roses and the unforgettable Maggie Mugwort and her garden”

This is an event for adults but older children (12+) also welcome.

For maximum enjoyment dress for the woods*, bring something to sit on and your own tea cup - paper cups will be provided if you forget

*If it rains we will take advantage of the covered shelter

See below for more information about your evening visit to the woods: And further still to find out about the creative team.

  • Getting There: this link also provides accessibility information
  • Arriving and Leaving: Gates will be locked 5 minutes before the performance starts. If you are late you might have to wait for the short interval! Sorry but we cannot refund tickets if you are late. If you need to leave before the end of the show that’s not a problem we will have someone on hand to let you out!
  • During The Show: We will be serving beautiful herbal tea blends as part of the performance but you are also welcome to bring your own drinks if you would like to as Foundry Wood only has a cold water tap. We will not be able to provide additional hot water.
  • Comfort: We recommend that you bring something to sit on although there are logs and benches at the woodland. We will be outdoors so please wrap up!
  • Wet Weather: We know it’s the Summer but… If it rains we will use the shelter in the woodland for cover
  • Toilet: The woodland has one compost toilet. It is perfectly clean and has loo roll and hand sanitiser. But do feel free to bring your own!
  • Costs: We are offering tiered ticketing - please choose the option you can afford. We also have a small number of free guest list tickets for those for whom any cost would be a barrier to attending - if you would like one of those please get in touch directly.

We can’t think of anything else at the moment but please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.

The Creative Team:

Pyn Stockman is a performance storyteller living on a boat in the West Midlands. She spends her time researching and telling stories. She loves her work! And is particularly interested in folk tales of woods and wild magics, folk and plant lore.

Arlene Burnett is a visual artist and qualified medical herbalist. She specializes in making creative work using found and natural materials and working with plants and teas. In the shows she integrates her scientific knowledge of plants and herbs with the performance.

Marc Reck is a musician, digital sound designer and long term collaborator. He specialises in narrative-based audio composition and production including live looping and handpan. He has performed alongside Pyn at story cafes, cathedrals and woodlands.

Pyn and Arlene developed Story-Tea in 2019 and were immediately booked for Birmingham Literature Festival. They are excited to have received arts council funding this year to develop Midsummer Brew into a full touring show incorporating a musician and working with Titania Krimpas as a director and Adverse Camber as advising producers. They are also delighted to be back in Foundry Wood!
