Here it is...the event I have been wanting to invite you to for the last 17 months! Story Sessions is LIVE and MONTHLY again and ready to get this story party started! We've also made some changes to bring you more story fun than you ever imagined.
First of all, our pre-COVID venue Sauce & Bread Kitchen was a big hit thanks to all of you! So big in fact, that we outgrew the space in four months. I had a long time to think about how to get all of your butts in seats with a good sound system. Luckily, my cousin Donnie Biggins, also the owner of Golden Dagger (formerly the Tonic Room), was open to bringing stories to his awesome Lincoln Park indie music venue. It's pictured above during a show I went to last month, but we'll have 50 seats, no standing. Every THIRD SUNDAY we will meet up at this cool-as-hell bar and cafe (lots of options for drinkers and non-drinkers alike). Note: the first show only is the fourth Sunday. The doors open at 6pm, shows starts at 7pm. It's Lincoln Park, so I know you're thinking, where do I park and how much will that cost me? Good news, there are no meters on Sunday. It is a ten minute walk from the Fullerton Redline. There's no food at the venue, but there are a ton of excellent restaurants absolutely surrounding the place. The format of the show will be 4 curated tellers and 2 open mics. And that leads me to my next big news...
We just couldn't give up Edgewater's own Sauce & Bread Kitchen, it's a part of us now, so our FIRST FRIDAYS every month we'll spend at Story Sessions' first 100% OPEN MIC! It's the perfect size for an open mic and there's that delicious pizza too. They even got a liquor license during COVID, so it's a whole new party there! If you put your name in for the open mic at the Golden Dagger show and you don't get called, you get put first on the list at the open mic. We'll be starting this in late fall, date TBA based on SBK's safety guidelines. I cannot wait to see you there and hear all of your stories! We'll have a 7 1/2 min time limit, if you want to start getting ready!
Speaking of safety, ALL audience members for the Golden Dagger show must be vaccinated. And listen, I have friends who cannot get the vaccine for health reasons, and I am truly saddened that they cannot join us. However, Story Sessions stands by Golden Dagger's belief that if you can be vaccinated, you should be vaccinated. We are making our show as safe as possible during this stupid global pandemic. You can show your physical vaccination card, a copy of your card, or a photo of your card at the door. Your name on your valid government-issued ID must match your vaccination card. Masks are required for patrons, only not when you are actively drinking.
