Story by Story is a monthly series for adults and teens, where storytellers from around the country share stories reflecting diverse cultures, beliefs, and experiences. Performances run 45-60 minutes, followed by an up-to 30 minute discussion opportunity.
You’ll hear stories from Kentucky and beyond when Frankfort-based Mary Hamilton takes our stage to kick off the 2026 Story by Story season. “I’m usually a teller from out of town” she says, “so it’s a treat to be telling here at my home library.” Listeners from Florida to Alaska have heard her tell, and now – she’s telling for us. We’re delighted!
For over forty years Mary Hamilton has strengthened imaginations and entertained audiences throughout the USA with her straightforward, just-talking style. Mary lives in Frankfort and grew up on a farm in Meade County, Kentucky. Her work has been featured at a variety of venues including the Storytellers of Canada Conference in Edmonton, Alberta; the Chickasaw Nation Annual Meeting and Festival, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma; the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee; and the Cave Run, Corn Island, and Paris Storytelling Festivals here in Kentucky. Her work has been recognized by numerous awards, including a Circle of Excellence ORACLE Award from the National Storytelling Network and a Storytelling Winner Award for her book Kentucky Folktales: Revealing Stories, Truths, and Outright Lies (available for check out here in the library and for purchase at Poor Richard’s books). Mary is also a proud member of the Kentucky Storytelling Association.
