We normally do a Christmas event, and this year, we are extending invitations to experienced fencers out with Stork's Beak. The event will take place on Saturday the 7th of December from 12-4 pm in the Southside Community Centre, with a social in the evening, probably at Sambuca restaurant on Causewayside from 8 pm.
The schedule for the day is:
12:00 - 12:20 - Registration & Warmup
12:20 - 13:00 - Smallsword Workshop
13:00 - 14:00 - Smallsword tournament & Dagger tournament
14:00 - 15:00 - Rapier & Dusack Workshop
15:00 - 16:00 - Longsword tournament & Sabre tournament
20:00 - late - Christmas social at the Sambuca restaurant on Causewayside
The tournaments will be conducted using a king of the hill style system, and the rules will be published before the event. Tournaments will run concurrently or sequentially depending on numbers and interest on the day. Tournament data will be submitted to HEMA ratings unless participants request that their fights be omitted in advance on a per-tournament basis.
There will be plenty of space for freeplay and hopefully enough time for some Christmas games. The venue is located on Nicholson street in central Edinburgh and the event space is in the hall on the first floor at the very back of the building.
Equipment:
Minimum equipment requirements are a 350n fencing mask in good condition and gloves. For participation in the tournaments a fencing jacket is required and in the longsword tournament a pair of medium to heavy gloves must be worn, the lightest acceptable being do-hema or tempus-fugutives alligator gloves. Chest protectors, arm protection and abdominal guards are strongly recommended when participating in the tournaments.
For smallsword, the grips must be of either of the Italian, French or of a traditional smallsword variety. The tournament will be in two parts, conducted using both size zero and size 5 modern epee blades, loaner weapons will be available on the day. For the workshop, other types of blades may be used.
The dagger tournament will be conducted using Cold Steel nylon rondels (provided).
The longsword tournament will use feders with similar dimensions to the Regenyei standard feder.
The sabre tournament will be conducted using duelling sabres, which are defined for this purpose as being lighter than 750 grams, and heavier than 400 grams. Exceptions may be made in the case of especially heavy hilt furniture.
If there are any queries relating to the above, please contact us for clarification.
A limited amount of loaner kit is available, and if you require a given piece of equipment, please ask in advance as this is not our usual venue.
The cost of the event is £25 with concessions available.
