Each grave in a cemetery contains a story. While it is common for headstones to carry the deceased’s name, birth and death dates and perhaps a phrase or Bible verse, some have hints as to the person’s life in symbols. What does a wheat sheaf mean? A weeping willow? A “Days Eye?” Also, does a type of memorial give us additional information. Join us for this program given by Town of Islip Historian George Munkenbeck which will give the answers to these questions and will concentrate on the symbols found in St. John’s churchyard.
