Brave Irene's is happy to bring back Stories on the Land to your seven favorite acres of salvage, at the Coyote, Concrete Couch's park (1100 S. Royer Street, 80903). First up: A CAKEWALK FOR MIRANDY AND BROTHER WIND. This is an all-ages event, so bring your whole family and the neighbor's kids too! We'll read Patricia McKissack's picture book, Mirandy and Brother Wind, with its gorgeous art, lively characters, and deft rendering of historical southern Black folk and foodways. Then we're going to have an old-school cakewalk, inspired by it. Dancing, music, cakes to win. So far that list of beauties includes: a chocolate flan cake, a tres leches cake, a poppyseed lemon cake, a coconut dream cake.
There will be a few copies Mirandy and Brother Wind for sale there, should you want to get one. Tickets for the cakewalk: $3 per person, or $6 for a family.
Volunteers (baking, etc.) welcome. [email protected]
