With decades of dedicated work as Sarasota County's History Specialist, he has become an iconic local figure with his contributions earning him accolades and a beloved place in the region's cultural heritage. LaHurd has been honored as a "Hero of History" by the Historical Society of Sarasota County for his outstanding contributions to research and education. With over a dozen books and many articles to his name, he is a prolific writer.
