Behind the Taj will take us to Shahjahan’s view of the Taj Mahal circumscribed by his limited access to the monument. It will explore his intent his grand design and also how it was used then from the sacred mausoleum to the Moonlight Garden beyond his love of Mumtaz Mahal he was an Emperor of stupendous ambition and even conceit. The transition from a sacred space to a civic monument is of particular interest as the sacred takht of the Emperor became the dance floor for British soldiers. The stories are myriad as are the interpretations the flowers in perpetual mourning and gardens which transformed in every season.
