Large volume blood loss is the most common and preventable causes of death when it comes to penetrating traumatic injury such as gun shot or knife wounds. This course certifies students in techniques of blood loss control as prescribed by the American College of Surgeons and the Committee on Trauma. Techniques taught in this class, when applied appropriately, can help to increase survivability of victims of traumatic injury suffering blood loss.Topics covered include:
- Why is this training needed.
- Signs and symptoms of hypovolemic shock.
- Physiologic response to large volume blood loss.
- Recognition of life-threatening bleeding/ rapid trauma inspection.
- Compression & wound packing for bleeding control
- Types of tourniquets and how to properly apply a tourniquet.
- Chest seals
Students will get hands on practical experience in wound packing and tourniquet application.
Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate of training from the American College of Surgeons.
