October 11th at 5pm is the first ever Stone Soup Community Potluck and we're hoping to start with something extra special. For this initial gathering only, we're going to make stone soup together (see details below). We'll also have some fun activities, like decorating pebbles, for the kids and the crafty. We really hope you can come along; in this instance, it's not just the more the merrier, it's the more the tastier too!
The name "Stone Soup" is a reference to a folktale in which a community is convinced by strangers to share their food, unwittingly creating a wonderful feast. The strangers get a pot, boil some water, and place a stone in it. They appear so excited about the mouthwatering soup they're cooking that the curious villagers ask to have some. Anyone who wants to participate, though, must add an ingredient to the pot. Soon, after the whole community has contributed, there really is a delicious meal and plenty for everyone.
At this one off inaugural event, we want you to help us make stone soup! Please bring some chopped or diced vegetables (fresh, frozen, or canned is fine) and we'll add it to a pot of boiling vegetable broth (and a pre-boiled stone). To be as inclusive as possible, the soup will be vegan. If you also want to bring additional sides that complement soup (bread, crackers, cheese, etc.), a dessert, or drinks, that would be wonderful!
Please let us know if you're planning to come. Also, to make it easier to keep you updated and informed, we would LOVE you to subscribe to our email list: mailchi.mp/c531f59caebf/stone-soup
