The Link will host a “Stone Soup” event 4pm Sunday October 10. We last hosted one in 2018 at The Link. This time, it will be held at Memorial Park’s Shuffleboard Pavilion. (Just northeast of Wentling Field) We’ll set up a giant stew pot and gas grill, and everyone is welcome to bring their own ingredients to add, or simply partake in the soup once it’s done cooking.
The idea comes from an old folk tale. The story goes that some hungry travelers stop in a village and find the villagers unwilling to share their food stores. The travelers then decide to set up a pot over a fire, add some water from a stream, then drop a stone in it. When a villager walks by and asks what’s going on, the travelers tell him they are making a delicious stone soup, they are just missing a few ingredients for a garnish.
The villager is willing to contribute a few carrots in exchange for a share of the soup. Other villagers hear of the soup and come out to contribute their own ingredients. Before long, the kettle is full and all share in the tasty contents.
Homemade bread and jam will be provided, be sure not to miss this fun event!
