We are now in the time of winter, where snow is beginning to be upon us, but the folk are safe indoors happily enjoying the fruits of their fall harvest. The peoples of Scandinavia hailed the returning of Sunna (the sun). This time was not only was full of darkness, cold, and snow, but also marked the beginning of the sacred year and a celebration that life had not left this world. It is for this reason that evergreens and holly become common decorations in our homes and in our rites. This is our biggest Norse rite of the year. As always, we welcome our friends from the inclusive heathen community as well as all other interested people. Come any time after 3 PM for fellowship and discussions.
Some specific customs that you might want to plan for in advance:
- Oaths: There will be an opportunity to make personal oaths on our Iron Oath Ring. Consider what vow - if any - you would like to make. If you would like to make an oath during ritual, please talk to a member of the ritual team- oaths will need to be written in the oath book prior to ritual.
- Gift exchange: $10-15 value. Specify an appropriate age for the gift: Under-12, 12+, or if it is a 21+ beverage label it as such. Children's gifts are distributed separately from adult and teen gifts.
Schedule:
3:00 PM- Gather and socialize
4:00 PM- Pre-ritual Briefing
4:30 PM- Ritual Begins
After the ritual, please stay for our customary potluck feast, our exchange of gifts, and the singing of Yuletide carols and wassailing songs.
