Stompin’ Dave & Lucy Piper return to The Bridge Inn, Topsham on Saturday 8th February this time as their Electric Duo.“Stompin’ Dave is a phenomenal artist…a great guitar player and vocalist, an accomplished songwriter” Blues In The South. Lucy Piper has been described as “one of the UK’s leading blues drummers” by The Guardian. Do not miss what promises to be a fantastic evening.
You might not have had the chance to see Dave in action, but many consider him one of the most exciting and entertaining musicians on the current live music scene. In 2024 Dave was nominated for a UK Blues Award.
A prolific artist in the studio, Dave is a former member of former UK Blues Band of the Year, The Producers. Dave has consistently given over one hundred performances per year across the UK and beyond, including many major festivals.
With his songwriting Dave has engulfed himself in the masters of American roots music, remained true, but managed to produce “not…a sound of yesteryear that should be in a museum but real, modern, and relevant that should be heard live” Blues Matters. “Let’s face it, in adding the quality of his original material the man is a downright genius” Blues In Britain.
Joining Dave is Topsham based drummer Lucy Piper daughter of the late blues guitarist, writer and broadcaster Julian Piper - widely acknowledged as a leading UK authority on Blues.
Lucy performed with Julian’s band Junkyard Angels, often the backing band for touring musicians from the USA.
In the past Lucy has spent many nights performing in Mississippi, USA, alongside many top musicians including multi Blues Music Award winning Watermelon Slim and Robert Kimbrough Senior, son of one of the all time greats of hill country blues, Junior Kimbrough.
In 2019 and 2020 Lucy worked with double Grammy Award winning label Ruf Records on their annual ’Blues Caravan’. She also appeared on Ryan Perry’s album High Risk, Low Reward which was nominated for a Blues Music Award in 2020, universally recognised as the highest award in blues music.
Lucy and Dave have been performing regularly together since 2022 with many appearances at various festivals and arts centres. In that time they have released four albums together. “The sound is authentic, with a richness that’s as good as any of the best blues albums” Blues In Britain.
“Here’s two fabulous musicians delivering a record that deserves huge recognition, a modern blues album rooted nicely indeed in the traditions of the past.” Blues In Britain
