This course utilises the our manikins and equipment to educate and support care staff this the management of stoma’sBy the end of the course you will be able to:
Define what a stoma is and which conditions may have a colostomy or ileostomy formed following resection of the bowel.
Demonstrate cutting a templates for a stoma bag.
Outline the difference between a different stoma bags. .
Demonstrate changing a stoma appliance.
Outline a range of problems that may be encountered, and the recommended problem-solving techniques.
Demonstrate problem solving issues that arise from stoma care
Identify the complications that require prompt medical attention.
Discuss the non-medical attention complications, and outline care that can be delivered whilst the patient is waiting to be seen by their stoma nurse.
Entry requirements
This course is designed for carers in all areas of the industry but especially the private sector of care homes and domicillary staff.
Please be aware that you may need to undergo employer training in this skill on top of this course. Check with your employer before you apply. We can supply a competency framework to assist your evidence of competence within practice.
