Compensation for Non-Equity Actors
$75 stipend for non-Equity actors
Additional $25 bonus for SSG Actor Ensemble Members
(Must have performed in at least 10 SSG productions.)
Two complimentary opening weekend tickets (subject to availability)
Actor’s Pass: Free admission to opening weekends of future SSG shows for one year
(non-transferable; subject to availability)
Equity Actors: We are currently unable to offer Equity contracts.
Important Notes Before Auditioning
-Rehearsals will begin in Irving and later move to our new theatre on Decatur Avenue.
-Romantic leads will be required to perform stage kisses.
-Some Regency dancing will be included.
-Please have a flexible evening and weekend schedule at least four weeks before tech week.
-All conflicts must be disclosed before casting; added conflicts afterward may result in recasting.
-SSG maintains a safe and respectful environment — bullying or discrimination will not be tolerated.
-Cast members must participate in strike to receive their stipend.
-Health & Safety: Precautions may include mask-wearing or other measures as needed to protect the cast from illness.
About the Show
When their wealthy half-brother cheats them of their inheritance, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are left penniless and must move to humble Barton Cottage. There, they encounter heartbreak, romance, and renewal in this witty and heartfelt adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel.
Elinor longs for the steadfast Edward Ferrars, while the passionate Marianne loses her heart to the dashing John Willoughby, until both learn that sense and sensibility must find balance for love to endure.

About the Playwright – Jessica Swale
Jessica Swale is an award-winning playwright and director, and Artistic Director of Red Handed Theatre Company. Her works include Nell Gwynn (winner of the 2015 Egerton Foundation New Play Award), Blue Stockings (a GCSE set text), and adaptations such as Sense and Sensibility, Far from the Madding Crowd, and The Secret Garden. She is also a BAFTA JJ Screenwriting Bursary recipient and has directed at Shakespeare’s Globe, Southwark Playhouse, and internationally.
