Aerial silks are one of the most recognisable and classical pieces of aerial circus apparatus, as well as the most challenging. Aerial silks appear to be two long, thick ribbons of material upon which you can execute beautiful climbs, drops and poses while building upper body strength.Silks are our only vertical apparatus, this adds an extra element of strength as there are few resting places between or during poses, and to perform on silks you must first learn to climb and invert at height. Silks offer unparalleled versatility once climbs and basic inverts are mastered. In our classes we ensure no one struggles to achieve even as a complete beginner, and there are a wide range of moves we will teach even to complete beginners as they build strength for climbs.
This class is a beginners/beginners+ level. This means it is suitable for complete beginners to silks, those with no prior aerial experience in any discipline, as well as students who have completed a few terms already, but are not yet confident in climbs or air inverts. A variety of skills and options will be given for all beginners or beginners+ to suit their current stage. Please speak to Kelly in class or email [email protected] if you are unsure of your level. Equipment is shared between no more than 2 people to guarantee plenty of practice time during our classes. In this group we will offer lots of modifications and variations on each pose to suit all abilities, ensuring no student feels left behind, while continuing to challenge and develop more experienced aerial students.
Teens 11+ are welcome with a participating adult over the age of 18, and 16+ may attend unaccompanied, however this is an adult class and under 16s may not attend unaccompanied. Our aerial arts classes have a 21 stone/133kg weight limit.
This is a dynamic physical class, please get in touch if you have a health condition that could limit your participation, or consider our aerial yoga classes which are less strenuous as a starting point for entry to aerial arts. If you are reasonably fit and healthy (able to climb stairs, lift a heavy box, walk unaided then this class should suit most people but you will work hard!). This class is not suitable to begin if you have active current vertigo, herniated or bulging spinal disks, glaucoma, arthritis which significantly limits your grip, are currently pregnant or are within 6 weeks of giving birth.

A free carers place is available for anyone who requires assistance to access our classes and is in receipt of middle or higher rate DLA or PIP.
