The Town Hall is about 3 minutes walk from the train station (or there is all-day parking at the Town Hall for just £3 (ticket holders will receive code for access) from where you can spend the day visiting the amazing Stockport Air Raid Shelters, built for 6500 people and giving a fascinating insight into life in the 1940's, also the Stockport Plaza , a gorgeously restored art deco cinema and cafe, a great place for afternoon tea in 30's /40's surroundings with waitresses in traditional uniforms. The Hat Works is the only hat museum in the country where you can learn all about hat-making, this is just 8 minutes walk from Stockport Town Hall (google maps) and the Stockport Air Raid Shelter is just 4 minutes walk from the Hat Works and you have to pass the Plaza to get there!! All very close so weather is not a real problem.
Other places nearby to visit is the Grade 2 listed Stockport Market Hall, the wonderful Vintage Emporium at Pear Mill and the gorgeous Tudor Bramhall Hall and Gardens. The makings of a very interesting vintage day or even weekend!! We vintage lovers have needed an excuse to visit these great attractions in Stockport for a long time.....
