Join us this special day to stroll through three centuries of our fabulous history in New York’s oldest registered historic district! The Stockade Walkabout is a historic house tour that celebrates three centuries of history in Schenectady. People are invited to peek into the private homes that grace the streets of New York's first registered historic district.Eight neighbors have graciously agreed to open the interior of their homes to visitors and tell secrets of the architecture and stories of the families that lived in them.

On this year's Walkabout, participants will see:
- The exciting timber bones and artifacts display of a 1700’s house, which is a historic restoration in progress
- A late Victorian home with wall to ceiling artworks
- A charming 1976 reproduction of a Dutch home furnished with antiques and American and French art
- A grand Victorian brownstone, a home and salon, with 12 ft. ceilings
- A 1752 Dutch frame house with hand hewn beams
- A once-workshop now enlarged into a charming home
- An 1800s house and grocery store converted to a two family
- An 1840 house that survived Hurricane Irene with flood mitigation techniques
New on this year's tour is StreetFest on Church Street, filled with vintage cars and artisans selling their creative wares, antiques, and clothing. Food vendors will offer tasty delights. In addition to touring the glorious homes and StreetFest, participants are invited to tour:
- Three historic churches: First Reformed, St. George’s, and First Presbyterian
- An ongoing archaeological dig by the Schenectady County Community College
- The recently renovated Stockade Inn and Inner Bliss Yoga Studio
- The Civic Players, local theatre at its best
- Exhibits at the Schenectady County Historical Society
- Artist studios at the Brouwer House Creative, Schenectady's oldest building, dating to the 1730s. Featuring blacksmithing demonstrations
Tickets: $25 in advance at schenectadyhistorical.org/event/walkabout, $30 on the day of the event, and $10 for students on the day of the event.
