How do artists combine personal experiences and public records to communicate difficult histories?
Join Aleah Washington, 2024 Charlotte Street Visual Artist Fellow, and Andrew Gustafson, Curator of Interpretation at the Johnson County Museum, for a candid conversation on Kansas City's history of racial discrimination in housing known as redlining, and how the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center's archives informed Aleah’s work currently on view at the Nelson-Atkins. Following the discussion, guests are invited to engage in a quilted board game that Aleah created to consider how redlining can take shape in any city.
This program is presented in collaboration with the Johnson County Museum.
