Stitch Meditation, created by Liz Kettle, is a silent process of simple running stitches with intuitively, quickly, pre picked fabrics and a preloaded threaded needle. You be lead into a breath work practice and a mindfulness topic for the session. The bell will signal beginning and we will stitch silently together for a short period of time, typically 15-20 minutes. The bell will end the session, and. you’ll be left with an affirming thought. Total time, with directions is 45 minutes.
The Process:
Bring a piece of fabric that you want to stitch on with running stitch in various ways. You can also bring 2 other smaller pieces of fabric to collage into your main piece.
Prethread your needles with any type and color of thread you want. It's good to have a cotton thread and then also an embroidery thread for heavier lines if you feel you want to do that.
We will introduce ourselves, go over the process briefly, and then engage in HeartMath Breathwork and grounding ourself, to help get us into a more relaxed state. When the bell rings we will start a silent stitching process. You are encouraged to be nonjudgemental and work spontaniously from your intuition. Any thoughts that come to mind, notice them and allow them to float away of be put in a box until they can be looked at later.
Slow stitch with your breath.
It's ok if things turn out "ugly" or you don't know what it is.
The purpose is to engage in a moving stitch meditation, not to make something pretty. That said, many people do mount and frame theirs, put them into Stitch Books or create art from them. That is not the purpose of the meditation however.
You need to bring:
a maximum of a 5 in large piece of fabric (5 inch squares work great for starting out)
your needle and thread (prethread the needles or do that when you arrive onsite)
scissors (we will have some if you forget)
This practice is silent. While we are together physically, we will not be chatting during the meditation practice.
