Did you know that in Perth & Kinross we throw away a staggering 801 tonnes of clothing, shoes, and other textiles each year?!Lots of our modern textiles are made of synthetic fibres which don’t decompose. These release microplastics and harmful chemicals into the environment. Charity shops and textile banks are overflowing with more than they can sell, meaning lots of those clothes are shipped overseas.
But it doesn’t have to be this way! Mending our clothes so we can keep using them for as long as possible is the best thing we can do to reduce their impact on the planet.
With that in mind, join us to hear from Mary V Morton and Jeanna Wigger all about their recently released book, ‘Stitch It, Don’t Ditch It’! The book guides readers through simple hand-sewn repairs to help you love your clothes for longer. It’s aimed at those with limited or no sewing skills, so please come along even if you’ve never done any sewing before. Mary and Jeanna will lend us their expertise as they chat about the book and do a Q&A. We’ll also hear about some of the fantastic clothing repair and reuse projects going on in Perth & Kinross.
