The goal of this event is get us comfortable enough to start unmasking outside. There will be something for each of the senses. Stim freely!
About this Event

Stimming seems to help autistic people manage emotions like anxiety, anger, fear & excitement. For people with ADHD who also struggle with impulsivity, or boredom, stimming can offer a helpful outlet to release nervous energy and improve their concentration.

Stim Club focuses on "happy stimming." This is when people stim to express pleasure rather than to focus or calm down. Happy stimming is typically done to express enjoyment rather than to manage negative emotions. At Stim club there will be something fun & interactive for each of the senses. There will also be a dimly lit area to wind down if you feel overstimulated. Towards the end of the day we will open the floor to share our experiences and have a talk on masking / how to unmask.

Unmasking starts with unlearning shame.
Masking is any attempt or strategy to hide your disability.
People in marginalized groups, including women, people of color & LGBTQ+ people might feel even more compelled to mask their disability. Still today, the assessments used for diagnosing autism & adhd in kids and adults is based on white & usually very young cisgender boys. Meaning neurodivergent people from marginalised groups are instead seen to have behavioural problems and as a problem to be contained.
