Within this 5 week beginner friendly course you will explore how to create your own still life exploring a range of techniques and mediums.

THIS IS A 5 WEEK COURSE 17 th June to 15 th July
In this 5-week course you will explore how to create your own still life exploring a range of techniques and mediums. This is a playful art course in which you will experiment with different drawing styles, collage techniques, painting effects and how to create a range of textures and surface patterns. The final outcome will be your very own still life to take home and display.
The tutor Alice is a mix media artist whose practice includes illustration, collage and textiles. She has a love of vibrant colours and patterns and enjoy incorporating them into her designs. She works with a range of communities across Leeds, working in community centres and art spaces. She likes art to be accessible and creative. @aliceburfordartist
Week 1
The group will explore creating backdrops to their still life. Looking at fabrics, surface pattern and colour blocking. The group will try out painting and drawing techniques.
Week 2
In the second week the group will experiment by creating textures on card using techniques such as sgraffito and wax relief. These textures will then be used in week 3.
Week 3
Using your textures and surface pattern from week 2 the group will create collage shapes of vases, flowers and other objects. These will then become the subject to place on top of the backdrops that were made in week 1.
Week 4
In week 4 the group will look at positive and negative space within a still life image. They will explore form, colour and composition.
Week 5
In the final week individuals will chose their favourite techniques and processes to create a final design.
The course is suitable for complete beginners or those wanting to refresh their skills. All materials will be provided.
Hot drinks and biscuits are included.
To ensure this Still Life and Mixed Media Course is accessible to everyone we have made it Pay What You Can for the 5 -week Course. We have suggested £10 per session to help cover costs but if this is not affordable for you then please input what you can. (When booking, please add a donation of however much you can afford for the 5 -week course). Any donation is welcome. Stitch-Up CIC is a social enterprise and any profits we make are reinvested straight back into delivering our creative community projects supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people in Leeds to learn new skills and improve wellbeing.
We will also be using this time to gain feedback from participants about what creative activities they would like to see going forward at Meanwood Community Centre so all feedback is greatly appreciated.
There is ample parking available at the Community Centre Car Park. If you cannot fit in the Car Park, please park on the main part of Stainbeck Avenue, with consideration to the residents please do not park in the cul-de-sac.
The Stitch-Up Studio is to the rear of the Community Centre. Once you arrive in reception please follow the signs for Stitch-Up.
