In this workshop we’ll combine archival history practices with needlework to explore ideas of memory, history, documentation, and identity. Participants will choose an historical document that speaks to them (from their personal history or broader cultural histories). We’ll print the documents onto fabric and embellish them with stitching while we discuss how craft can help us engage with historical texts and information in different ways. Participants will leave the session with an embroidered document that can be incorporated into quilts or other sewing projects, used as a patch on a jacket or bag, or as fodder for many other projects, as well as a new perspective on historical documentation. This class is $50 per person.
