About this Event

Join STIBC for our very first Language Mini-conference on Sunday, June 23rd.

Five talented speakers will share fascinating insights on topics ranging from machine translation, language protection, polyglottism, and creating constructed languages for the movies. One of our featured speakers, Mohammed Al Zaza, will share his extraordinary journey from Gaza to Vancouver and the difficulties he faced upon arrival learning a new language and adapting to a new culture.

After the talks, we will play a rousing game of language Jeopardy. Three contestants (let us know if you want to participate!) will vie for prizes and glory by answering language questions like these:

Although Franz Kafka was born in Prague, he wrote his books in this language.

Anyone who has taken piano lessons knows that the Italian word, pianissimo means this.

The conference is free for STIBC members and $30 for nonmembers.
