Afro Dance Films – The past, the present and the future
Five films, a talk and mingle at Etnografiska museet.
We would like to invite you to a film dance journey looking at afro-descendance, weaving connections between the past, the present and the future. This international programme of dance films casts a light on the moving, dancing body in relation to imaginary and African landscapes.

with Smaïl Kanouté, Mona Namér and Christian Guerematchi.
Nora (USA, UK, Mozambique) by Nora Chipaumire, Alla Kovgan and David Hinton is based on true stories of the world famous choreographer and dancer Nora Chipaumire, who was born in Zimbabwe in 1965. In the film, Nora returns to the landscape of her childhood and takes a journey through some vivid memories of her youth.
So Ava and Sodida by Smaïl Kanouté (France) will take you to the weaving industry of Sodida in Dakar, Senegal and the lakeside of the So Ava kingdom in Benin and its voodoo culture.
In CRNI TITO – Blaq Tito Addressing the Parliament of Ghosts Christian Guerematchi (Slovenia, Netherlands) will meet the dancing ghost of Tito in Ghana and the memory of the Non Aligned Movement.
In A Bath in my Mother’s Womb by Mona Namér (Sweden) offers a dream landscape outside the physical world, in which the mind and body floats between different mental states in the search of total liberation.
The event will start with a pre-mingle in the garden of Etnografiska museet at 1pm, the screening will start at 2pm in the museum auditorium and will be followed by a talk, moderated by Michael Barrett (curator, Africa, Etnografiska museet). Entrance is included in the museum’s daily entrance ticket.
This event is in collaboration with Afrika Pågår and Cinemafrica.
