This free program for high school students features rotating events along our 600-mile range exploring various realms of conservation.
About this Event

Join Seymour Marine Discovery Center and The Marine Mammal Center for a hands-on event exploring marine mammal adaptations. Together, we will conduct experiments comparing and contrasting our human capabilities with various marine mammals, tour the Long Marine Lab, and design some tools to better support animals in The Marine Mammal Centerโ€™s hospital space. By the end of the event, we hope youโ€™ll leave with increased knowledge of marine mammal physiology, and will have some goals for the next steps you can take on your conservation journey.

Stewardship Saturday events vary in levels of physical and mental exertion. Please review the entire event description, including accessibility notes, to ensure this event meets your expectations.

We can sign for Community Service hours if you need us to!

Free lunch and snacks will be provided.

This event may be cancelled due to weather conditions. We will notify you the week of the event if this happens.

Accessibility notes:

Parking and Transportation notes:

  • Alternative Transportation: Santa Cruz Metro route 20 stops at Seymour Center. Seymour also offers plenty of bike racks.
  • Driver note: Adult drivers of youth are welcome to drop youth off and come back at the end of the event, or explore the local area during this time. We do ask that youth attend the events without adults to allow for opportunities to meet others interested in conservation. All organization staff are certified to work with youth.
