Buildings account for 75% of greenhouse gas emissions in DC. There is no path to a carbon-free future without rapidly and comprehensively transforming DC’s building sector. DCPL will conduct a series of six public programs exploring how building sector stewardship can best contribute to meeting DC’s climate commitments. Three programs will be conducted in the fall of 2021, three more in the spring of 2022. Each program will be organized as a symposium, engaging subject experts, community representatives, and stakeholders.
Program 1 offers baseline information on the building sector and urban infrastructure and its specific relevance to DC’s climate action strategies.
Featured speakers include: Lisa Benton-Stanon, Prof of Geography and Program Director for Sustainability at George Washington University; Gregory Squires, Professor of Sociology and Public Policy & Public Administration at George Washington University; Sarah Vonesh, Director of Preservation Planning at EHT Traceries, and GIS Specialist Brian Kraft.
