Join us for a tour of the many gardens on the stewarded land of WRI to learn how a donated plot of land can turn into a bounty of food.
About this Event

Come along on a tour of the many gardens on the stewarded land of Wenatchee River Institute . We'll start in the E. Lorene Young Community Garden to learn about how a donated plot of land can turn into a bounty of food for a community. Next, we'll walk the 13-acres that WRI uses for environmental education. Learn about noxious weeds, the benefits of native plants for humans and animals, and how to create a biodiverse native plant Heritage Garden at your own home. Participants will get a noxious W**d ID booklet, a list of beautiful, pollinator attracting native plants for the home garden, and a pack of native wildflower seeds to jumpstart your own Heritage Garden.

This workshop is donation based. Please consider bringing a cash or check donation to the tour to help support WRI's mission and educational programming.

Wenatchee River Institute connects People, Communities and the Natural World.

The Wenatchee River Institute (WRI) believes the greatest hope for the future is through connecting people, communities and the natural world. We engage thousands of learners annually through transformative environmental education on our campus in Leavenworth and across North Central Washington. Each experience is created to help participants understand their environment and discover the impact they can have in the world and their community.

The Sustainable Living & Farming Tour is an opportunity for people to learn more about living a simpler and more sustainable life by visiting examples and partaking in hands-on applications in the greater Leavenworth area. Over the course of one weekend, September 13th -15th, participants will choose between various workshop offerings and site visits that educate, inspire, and motivate a path toward sustainable living. Participants will form connections to local food, the surrounding environment, and the people who are 'walking the talk' of sustainability & stewardship.
