Steps into Nature Presents: Scientific Names: Who Comes Up With Them?

Plants, bugs, animals, mushrooms, and germs all have scientific names in Latin. What’s the point of that? Latin is an ancient language that no one speaks anymore. We’ll figure out why it’s useful to have Latin names, how different creatures got assigned their Latin names, and how we can make up our own hilarious Latin names.
This program is part of our Steps into Nature series and is appropriate for children ages 5-12. A light snack is provided at the end of each installment.
