Here in the Midway, the water we rely on comes from the Mississippi. Keeping our local storm drains free of yard waste and litter helps protect the quality of the water we all depend on AND reduces strain on our water treatment system. You can make a difference for clean water by stenciling storm drains!Join your neighbors and volunteer to stencil storm drains on Saturday, September 28, 10 a.m.-noon. We'll meet at Hamline Park, 1564 Lafond Avenue for a brief orientation with FMR. Volunteers will distribute educational door hangers in the neighborhood, clean excess debris and trash from storm drains, and stencil the message "Keep 'Em Clean - Drains to the River" using stencils and white spray paint. It's a fun, easy way to have a big impact.
All supplies and training will be provided by Friends of the Mississippi River. No experience is necessary, but space is limited. This family-friendly activity is most appropriate for children ages 10 and up. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please pre-register by filling out https://forms.gle/A9HnrkLGC2mumnTa9 by September 24.
Volunteers should wear sturdy, comfortable, closed-toe shoes and clothes they don't mind getting paint on.
