About this Event
As the days grow warmer and the sun shines brighter, it's a timely reminder to think about protecting ourselves from harmful UV rays. Jarrod Flynn, Community Coordinator at Cancer Council NSW, joins us to highlight the critical importance of sun safety as we head into the summer months.
Cancer Council is Australia’s leading cancer charity, dedicated to working across every aspect of every cancer—from research and prevention to support and advocacy. One of their key focus areas is skin cancer, which remains one of the most common forms of cancer in Australia.
With 1 in 2 Australians expected to be diagnosed with skin cancer in their lifetime, the message is clear: sun protection is not optional, it’s essential. As summer approaches, it’s time to embrace the iconic Australian sun safety campaign: Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, and Slide.
- Slip on protective clothing
- Slop on broad-spectrum sunscreen
- Slap on a wide-brimmed hat
- Seek shade during peak UV times
- Slide on sunglasses to protect your eyes
Whether you're heading to the beach, enjoying a backyard barbecue, or simply walking to the shops, these five simple steps can make a big difference in reducing your risk of skin damage and skin cancer.
Stay sun safe, and let’s make this summer a healthy one.
