About this Event

Join the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN) at a UN Statistical Commission side event which will bring explore challenges, progress, and innovations in multidimensional poverty data collection and analysis.

This event will convene Directors of National Statistical Offices across all regions as well as senior representatives from UN agencies. The discussion will focus on the pivotal role of statistics such as Multidimensional Poverty Indices (MPI) for evidence-based and targeted policy actions.

The alleviation of poverty in all its forms is key for social development, and represents the greatest challenge of our time. This side event will reinforce and build on global commitments to eradicate poverty, such as the Sevilla Commitment and the Doha Political Declaration, and will contribute to the discussions on building a comprehensive framework to capture sustainable development beyond GDP. It will emphasise the importance of data tools such as the MPI as essential evidence for comprehensive SDG policy action by 2030 and beyond.
