About this Event

Static: A Stage Play by Jimmy McAleavey

An isolated man in Donegal, desperate to talk to someone, surfs his radio but only gets the death notices. He switches to short-wave and his antique ham radio. A lone astronaut due to come back down for his retirement party inexplicably smashes his comms up. Soon he finds the only person he can save him is a peculiar man from Donegal.

One is a colossus of the cosmos, the other just a bollox from Ballybofey, but both are buffeted by solar winds of loneliness. The astronaut is trapped in a tin can surrounded by zero gravity, absolute zero temperature and absolutely no oxygen.

The man from Donegal is similarly housebound with agoraphobia. Will he save the astronaut or hold him hostage in space so he has someone to talk to? Will the astronaut discover why re-entering the world disgusts him and will he learn the courage to do what he needs to do from an earthbound loser?

Based, naturally, on a true story.
