I would like to extend an invitation to you and your students to join us for our Invitational Tournament on November 1, 2025 in Sylvania, OH. For an information packet please contact us at [email protected]There are 4 areas of competition. Please note that Patterns & Sparring are part of the base price. Patterns are required in the competition. Sparring highly encouraged. These two areas are the only areas that will be double elimination to the final round.
1. Individual patterns: Students will be judged in an elimination style with two students at a time competing simultaneously. The students may choose to perform one rank below their current level in patterns (i.e. Green Belt performing Do-San). This will allow those who have recently tested to compete. Judges will determine the winner based on technique, power, timing, and balance.
2. Sparring: Everyone, regardless of rank, is expected to demonstrate the tenant of self-control in sparring. I want all students to be safe so all black belts are asked to watch the amount of contact between competitors. At the black belt rank, we will allow more contact but safety always comes first. At White Belt and Yellow Belt students will have the option of No contact sparring. All competitors competing in contact sparring must have appropriate head gear, mouth piece, foot gear, and hand gear. Gentlemen will also be required to wear groin protection. Sparring matches consist of 1 1/2 minutes color belts and 2 minute continuous round scoring and will follow ITF rules.
3. Breaking: This event will consist of power breaking with re-breakable boards. The techniques used in the breaking event consist of a side kick, turning kick, and a knife hand strike or punch. For participants 13 years and older. Each board will be assigned a point value. The student will decide the color and number of boards they wish to attempt. Point values are as follows: yellow =1 pt, orange = 2 pts, green = 4 pts, blue = 5 pts, brown = 7 pts, black = 8 pts. The student will have one chance to break on each of the 3 attempts and the total cumulative number of boards broken/points recorded will be their score. The student with the most points after all three breaks wins their division.
4. Specialty Breaking: This event consists of three different breaks: high front snap kick, high turning kick, and flying side piercing kick. This will be open to ages 13 and up, Green belt and above.
5. Special Needs Division: If we have a student who qualifies in the area of special needs, We will include a Special Needs Division. Examples of special needs include: Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, etc. Please let me know in advance. We will have a Patterns division for these students to compete in. If they wish to do a breaking or self defense demonstration competition area we will have a bracket for them as well. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
I hope to keep the divisions small for the children, allowing for more chance for them to win. Teen, Adult, & Black Belt divisions will be bigger if we have competitors to give students more experience with competition. We will also be dividing sparring divisions by weight. If you have students who will be participating, please RSVP before the tournament. Note that day of registrations will not be accepted. We look forward to hosting a safe and fun tournament for everyone. I hope to see you all in Sylvania.
Sincerely,
Carol Van Zile, VII
