Starting (or developing) Your Climate Action Project

Do you have an idea for a climate action project you’d like to bring to life, or a climate action project which is feeling a bit stuck?
About this Event

In Dudley borough we have natural habitats listed as being at high risk and very high risk from climate change. We believe our local communities are among those who know the neighbourhoods, towns, parks, ponds and canals of Dudley borough best. We also believe that local people have an abundance of ideas, skills, and knowledge. Exactly the kind of imagination, know-how and wisdom that is needed to help heal our vulnerable natural habitats.

Dudley People’s School for Climate Justice encourages and supports creative, experimental responses to the interconnected climate, nature and justice crises. One of the ways we do this is by bringing people together in groups to learn from each other, share ideas and resources, encourage and support each other, and celebrate progress and successes. You decide what you want to learn about, explore and take action around.

Your idea or project might take place on your street, in a school or college setting, in a communal outdoor space, in a workplace, or across your neighbourhood. We will introduce and share tools and tactics to help you think through an experiment or project from start to end.

We start off with 4 weekly online sessions using Zoom in November 2024:

Session 1: Monday 4 November 2024 | 6pm-8pm
Getting to know each other and a tool called the Design Web. Exploring our ideas, making observations and identifying things that are going to help and limits to overcome or work within.

Session 2: Monday 11 November 2024 | 6pm-8pm
Gathering inspiration, identifying helpful and unhelpful patterns, and using nature’s guidebook.

Session 3: Monday 18 November 2024 | 6pm-8pm
Bringing it all together, making a plan to get things done and considering how to keep going.

Session 4: Monday 25 November 2024 | 6pm-8pm
Building in review and reflection time, rest and rejuvenation, and appreciation.

From December 2024 through to summer or autumn 2025 we’ll come together every 3 or 4 weeks for check-ins to support and encourage each other, and celebrate progress.

This peer learning and support is hosted by Time Rebel Lorna Prescott, who is also a member of the CoLab Dudley team. As host, Lorna will create rhythms (regular, consistent times to meet) and rituals (such as reflection time) to help hold us together.

This learning and support is part of our work in place, through Dudley People’s School for Climate Justice. To be eligible to take part you must live, work , volunteer or be learning in Dudley borough, in the UK.
